Trade Deadline 2020 Thanksgiving Edition

NFL. TAKE NOTES.

This is how you maximize on a trade deadline. Yesterday's trade deadline is a day that will be spoken about for the next decade. Once managers found out we can trade future draft picks, it was like a shark smelling blood in the water. Picture a ton of Mako's swarming a helpless child who stubbed their tone in the shallow waters. Dead.

I now know what it feels like to be Adam Schefter. All 3 phones were ringing off the hook, reporting breaking news left and right I actually had to call off work the second half of the day and take some PTO.

In a year where all 10 teams are still in it at the end of week 11, no less! We had first place teams spending high draft capital, we had bottom-of-the-standings teams taking advantage of the onslaught of draft picks being thrown around and capitalized. We can get into who won some of these trades when the season concludes, as well as next years draft and years to come. That's the impact this trade deadline had on Mitch Truby's Homeroom. Keepers will be affected for years to come, next season will certainly be a fun one. Draft night can't come soon enough. Lets take a look at the action.

Since there were so many trades I'm just gonna go in the order they happened.

Trade 1 - 2:24 pm)

Alvin Kamara to Nick's team for a 1st & 3rd round pick in 2021. This started off with a bang! Great return for Flem who has been toying with the idea of calling the season quits an receiving some draft capital next year. I don't think he thought this much value was going to come out of it, but with smart negotiations at the deadline he was able to come away with two top-3 picks.

And on an already stacked team, leading the league this year in first with two weeks left of the season. All Nick's team has to do is win out to secure the regular season champ. Kamara brings immediate blowout matchup threat level to any opponent this team runs into. We could see our first 300 point scorer in the coming weeks folks..

Trade 2 - 2:26 pm)

Chase Claypool and a 2nd round pick in 2021 to Jahnsy Stackhoused in return for Deandre Hopkins to Nick's team. The name says it all, Trade for days went out and got his guy. There's not a player in the NFL he isn't willing to go for, and what better person to complete another blockbuster deal with than his trading buddy Jahns? I've seen these kids hit bombs in softball, now I've seen them make bombs at the deadline. A steep price I would say for Deandre, including Claypool who is on a 10-0 Steelers team right now heading into Turkey Day is not the value I am giving up for Hopkins. But, that's why I suck at trading and couldn't offload CMC or Kittle.

Nick pushed his chips all in this year. No pick until the fourth round in 2021. Dedication to the ship.

Deandre. Kamara. Right off the bat. And....the day took off!

What transpired over the next several hours is something I don't think the common man, like ourselves, will get to experience ever again. The phones started blowing up, Schefty on one line, Rappaport on the other. Matthew Berry's annoying voice calling me asking me what is going on in our league. He said he's never seen a trade deadline like this since Wayne Gretzky was shipped off to L.A.

Guy has a sick stache

Trade 3 - 2:55 pm)

Jahnsy Stackhoused obtains Todd Gurley, Nordo getting Melvin Gordon III and an 8th round pick in 2021. A nice return for Nordo who has got absolutely shit on the last two weeks. Gordon in return does not rule him out of the playoffs, at we have two weeks left and he can be a difference maker. Gurley is a nice get on a Falcons team that simply does not care, so Gurley should just pad the stats rest of year.

Trade 4 - 4:38 pm)

Flem receives Wayne Gallman while Peter receives Juju Smith-Schuster. A simple 1 for 1 from these guys who are 'tired of this guy on my bench who is good, not great type of player'. Our first trade of the day without a future pick involved as well.

Agreed JuJu. SMH

Trade 5 - 4:52 pm)

Flem receives A.J. Brown, David Johnson, and a 5th round pick in 2021. Jahns receives Kenny Golloday, Allen Robinson II, and a 6th round pick in 2021. I really liked this trade, Johnson and Golloday are hurt, but should be back to action at least by fantasy playoffs. A-Rob can be a difference maker, as well as A.J. Brown, who has come on very strong as of late for the high scoring Titans. If Golloday gets healthy, Jahns has added two of the top NFC North wideouts next to Davante Adams and Adam Theilen.

Trade 6 - 5:52 pm)

Kratz receives Ezekiel Elliot trading away Austin Hooper and a 3rd round pick in 2021 to Peter. 2 3rd round picks are gonna be juicy next year. I wonder if we see Pete take Lamar and Mahomes with those 2 picks in the third round? I've seen crazier things happen. Oh ya, him doing it every year. More on that later..

Kratz establishes himself a RB1. Cowboys should make a push to win the NFC East since that division is terrible. The players seem to be rallying around Mike McCarthy and a concussed Andy Dalton.

"Mike McCarthy Smashed Watermelons With Sledgehammer to Fire Up Cowboys"

It's a shame he has to watch Zeke on Turkey Day, since the trade will not process until after the game. It'd be a real shame if Zeke punches 2 in while running for 100 yards.

Trade 7 - 7:08 pm)

Kratz receives Travis Kelce and a 10th round pick in 2021 in exchange  for Eric Ebron (sneaky sleeper rest of season), a 4th round pick in 2021, and a 7th round pick in 2021 to Jahnsy Stackhoused. I would also like to say this trade has nice value for Jahns. He gets a sleeping tight end rest of season, while moving up picks next year.

Zeke. Kelce. Just like that.

Trade 8 - 7:46 pm)

DraftStoshAllen.com has entered the chat. If the GM and Coach of this team could just get on the same page, things maybe could've worked out. Who knows, if Saquon doesn't get hurt this team probably a top four seed. Injuries and poor coaching this season keeps this team outside the hunt. With two games to go they need to win out and have a couple chips fall their way. I know for a fact they will be having some offseason discussions on how to approach next season.

Q receives Aaron Rodgers, Inc receives Tyler Boyd and Brandon Ayuick. Two wideouts who have proven themselves this season and ultimately, can help DraftStoshAllen.com sneak into the playoffs.

"Aaron Rodgers rolls his eyes at the legend of Patrick Mahomes"

Aaron Rodgers a big get for rest of year. Aaron Jones is also on this manager's team. Along with Mcaffrey, who, I thought was going to generate immense trade value. I did attempt to go for Davante Adams, but no bite. I tried to get top draft picks, no bite. Kratz claims he offered me a 3rd round pick. I don't buy it. I was too busy dropping Woj Bombs on everyone, nuke city.

Nick also sent me an offer for a future pick at 10:59 when the trade deadline was at 11. Thanks ya Greek.

Trade 9 - 8:18 pm)

Jahns receives Jimmy Graham and a 15th round pick in 2021 and gives Doza Dallas Goedert, a 11th and 14th round Pick in 2021. I tried to make sense of this trade and I just couldn't. Only logical explanation is Jahns loves the bears, but do the Bears love him? Graham and A-Rob now occupy two spots on Jahns' roster. Will Mitch save the day and this manager's fantasy season?

Trade 10 - 10:23 pm)

Jahns gets his 14th round pick back from Peter, along with Lamar Jackson in exchange for Tom Brady and a 6th round pick in 2021. No more Lamar, no more Mahomes.. What was once the most talked about as the most competitive QB room since Jameis and Taysom Hill. The Jackson-Mahomes combniation chapter has finally come to and end in Pete's book. Good riddance. There is a scenario where Peter plays Nick in week 1 of the playoffs, Nick having drafted Tom Brady would make a revenge tour come full circle having got bounced last year after being #1 the whole year.

Trade 11 - 10:53 pm)

Doza receives Cooper Kupp and a 10th round pick in 2021. Peter receives Marvin Jones Jr. and a 9th round pick in 2021. Doza being a notorious conservative when it comes to trading, was only willing to give up one less round. That's all your gonna squeeze outta this guy, but a good deal nonetheless to move up a round.

Everyone was so hungover from the bloodthirst that transpired yesterday that no more deals successfully took place the morning of the actual deadline. Having to digest it all in, same with having to digest a thanksgiving meal is tough. Some people woke up this morning and asked themselves. "Oh no, what did I do?" Others, "I'm gonna win it all this year." Which one were you?

To sum it up, here is a list of every player that was traded yesterday:

Week 2 - ACL Tears & Nordo Loses By 100

In a week riddled with injuries where we saw many high profiled players go down we were no short of story lines. We had bad starts (Paul), bad matchups (Nordo), and most importantly a late in-the-week stat correction that not only awarded Paul the Win last week, but also got him the $25 weekly category of beating opponent by smallest margin of victory.

I suppose it does come with a cost in losing Saquon after that close one last week..

David keeping Derrick Henry must hurt that much more for Paul who was going to select him with the third overall pick. Tough.

Matchups

Dude Where's My Carson? defeats I Lockett Alot in one of the biggest beat downs we've seen in fantasy football history occurred this past week. We almost had out first 100 point loss, but McCaffrey getting hurt was the reason Nordo did not lost by 100 points. A truly remarkable feat if you realize he has the leading MVP candidate in Russ Wilson who oh btw was the third leading scorer in the matchup with 43.9 pts! That's 1/3 of his points! Imagine starting Adrian Peterson and taking yourself seriously as a manager? I guess that's why he was forced to trade with the trade Guru Jahns.

A dominate day by Aaron Jones and Dak Prescott miraculous comeback against the Falcons is what did him in. I hope the Falcons look that bad next week for Mitch and the Boys.

You're welcome. It was nice watching the game with you at Pete's Place and swearing at the TV every time RedZone came on like the degenerates we are.  And would you change your team name? You don't even have Lockett this year.

The Flemchise defeats Roll The Hard Six  on some MNF heroics from Alvin Kamara who should continue to win Flem matchups, as long as Michael Thomas is out and Drew Brees can't throw longer than 5 yards.

A big win after a tough stat correction last week puts this team at 1-1, and with Golladay poised to come back soon this team could string together a nice winning streak.

A tough loss for Irwin who saw huge weeks from Mostert and Ridley, who is the WR1 in fantasy right now. You would've liked to get to 2-0 by those huge performances, is it time to give up on your keeper Carson Wentz who comes in as the QB26 2 weeks into fantasy... Joe is a passionate man and loves to stay true to his guys, but you gotta think one more week like this from Wentz and he's gone.

"Wentz had a passer rating of 72.5 against Washington and 56.5 against the Rams. He’s the only NFL quarterback who’s had a rating below 73 in two starts this year. In fact, every other QB in the NFL has had a rating below 73 a combined six times and Wentz twice. So he’s responsible for 25 percent of the sub-73 passer ratings in the entire league this year."

Odell's Poop Fetish defeats All Mahomies in a much needed win after getting embarrassed last week on National Television.

Higbee, Odell & Ekeler made up for the week 1 let down in large fashion. A nice team win to get this manager to 1-1 heading into week 3 matchup against a Saquon-less Paul team. The Kyler Murray to Deandre Hopkins TD is going to be fun to watch grow this year.

Higbee could've won me 1 million dollars in fanduel *if I had played him

I imagine this is the last week we see Peter's team roster both Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. With both these QB's playing against one another in week 3 MNF matchup, you just gotta think he can't take this tough decision making too much longer. In the wise words of my man Timmons from The Sandlot

"I Blame Myself"

Drafting Mahomes in the first was shocking, but we all kinda expected (and wanted) it to happen. The difference between hosting these two players on your team this year vs. last year is evident. It will be a sad day when one of these QB's can't sit on your bench every week, but I'm sure Jahns will give you his top 3 draft picks and his next few pay checks for one of them.

Trades for Days defeats Jahnsy Stackedhouse with solid weeks from Melvin Gordon, Dalvin Cook, Kelce and Pittsburgh Defense - who I believe could be the reason this team makes a case for the championship this year. Pitt has the best defense in NFL since last year's Patriots.

The one question I have for this manager is why are you sitting Deshaun Watson? I get he's playing against the Ravens D, but Tom Brady is currently the QB23 and what I consider to be the worst pick on draft night. With opponents in Denver, Chargers, and the Bears coming up for Brady I expect him to be outside the top 20QB in each of those weeks. Oh I also forgot to mention this manager has Cam Newton!

I have been chomping at the bit waiting all day to write this portion of the blog because I want to take a second and talk about Jahns' team. First off, change your team name. You are no longer stackedhouse and you are 0-2. Anyone who is 0-2 and has their own name in their fantasy team name immediately needs to think of something just as not-so-clever.

These jerseys are fire

I do appreciate the entertainment and trades to the league, it is a nice breath of fresh air when someone is as determined as you are to complete trades year in and year out. With that being said, it's time to take a deep breath of that fresh air I was referring to. Look yourself in the mirror. And ask. What year is it?

Rob Gronkowski
Greg Olsen
Drew Brees
Todd Gurley
T.Y. Hilton
Juju Smith-Schuster

Does this look like a team that will win you a championship in the year 2020, or in the year 2017?

Take a look at what Gronk and Olsen did for you this week.

That 0.1 points  for each. That's 2 targets between the 2 of them. I understand you weren't present at the draft, but there are currently 49 better Tight Ends in fantasy than Gronk, as he comes in at TE50.

I could have sworn you also tried drafting Tony Gonzalez on draft night, but someone mentioned he retired 6 years ago and is in the Hall of Fame.

I mean look at his facemask! Those aren't even legal in the NFL anymore and you tried rostering him with Gronk and Olsen.

Fun fact about Tony Gonzalez. His wife's name is October. Are you kidding me? Only the hottest people are named after months, especially spooky ones.

The Other Guys defeats DraftStoshAllen.com with a huge week from Matt Ryan, Darren Waller, & D.K. Metcalf. Hopefully Matt Ryan doesn't do that against the Bears next week. David's gotta be happy with DJ Moore and DK Metcalf putting up some consistent numbers this year and not having to depend so heavily on his RB's.

David, if I found out you didn't read the blog this week I will be excommunicating you from the group chat. Something I know you fear as much as fear itself.

Paul - if you decide to sit Josh Allen ever again I will be removing you from the league and handing your team over to Stosh to manage. It's in your own fantasy name Stosh Allen! Josh Allen could win MVP this year and you sat him against the Miami Dolphins. Serves you right you lost this week as he put up 48 points and that would have awarded you the W against David.

Week 1 - Mitch's Comeback

Much like my comeback to beat the first place champ this week in a matchup that turned out to not be close, Mitch trubisky came back in the fourth quarter to beat the Detroit Lions. With the help of a dropped pass from Deandre Swift the Bears were able to pull out a W in a game they should have definitely lost. The Lions suck, much like the returning champ To Khalil a Mackingbird

I have a feeling this will be the last time a manager starts a defense against Aaron Rodgers the the Packers. Yikes, in all fairness, it wouldn't have mattered. It's nice to receive a 100 dollar bet to start the season off along with a W and a Christian Mcaffrey jersey on the way from China.

Probably the best scene from South Park's last season from the episode Band in China

I really didn't want to make this video and rub it in. But, the people needed it after a week 1 beat down against the defending Champ. I won't say this is my best work but I will say it is my most rewarding...Sorry Michael.

Let's move on to this week's categories..

Longest Receiving TD:

DK Metcalf - 38 Yards - The Other Guys

“He’s one of the best receivers in the game,” Wilson told PFT by phone after Sunday’s 38-point outburst against the Falcons. “He’s like a 10-year veteran Pro Bowler.”

A close second was Adam Thielen who caught a 37 yard TD reception... game of inches.

Fun Fact: Iriwin had Adam Thielen..... and also had Raheem Mostert who was on his bench for a 75 yard TD reception that did not count since he was on the bench... Not only that, but Mostert clocked in at 22.73 MPH on his TD catch which was the fastest clocked time a player ran in game since 2018

David owes you a drink.

Team that beats opponent by smallest margin of victory:

The Flemchise 132.95 defeats DraftStoshAllen.com 132.7

Unless there is some wild stat correction after I post this, we had one of the wildest finishes in week 1 history. The Flemchise edges out DraftStoshAllen.com who had Saquon going on Monday night who finished with 6 rushing yards.

And yes! Right before I published this there was a stat correction..

Looks like flem still pulled away by roughly .25 points.. phew

A truly incredible MNF game, which resulted in the Steelers defense dominating the line of scrimmage allowing no room for Saquon to make anything happen. Only time he got any points was on a wheel route where he had to jump over 16 Steelers defenders.

https://nypost.com/2020/09/14/saquon-barkley-was-historically-bad-in-giants-loss-to-steelers/

A tough break for Stosh, who I know did about 20 more minutes of research this year that last. Paul might want to scratch his head and wonder why he sat some of his players who outperformed this week. But, Flemming had a great draft as usual and love to see a finish like this. No Golloday, No Problem.

GG's.

Highest Score:

The Other Guys  - 170.2

With a big opening week for this team, winning both the longest receiving TD and highest score.

I expect big things from this team in 2020.

Keeping Henry and being able to retain a guy like DK Metcalf is huge.

Drafting the rookie RB in KC and Garbage time Matt Ryan should prove dividends.

Davante Adams will not put up 40 points each week.

But, should be a good enough floor in the NFC North to keep this manager as a contender each week.

Week 2 Categories:

Team with most rush yards (all RB Starters including flex)

Team  who has the most points scored against them

Excited for Week 2 ?
